Guardian of the Glen, Durward’s Glen
oil on wood,5 7/8″ x 3 7/8″, 2016
While I was painting this grotto at Durward’s Glen, one of the patrons (and grounds keeper) of the retreat center told me the story of the statue. At one point a tree fell on the statue smashing it to pieces. This patron had it restored and he built the structure it’s in now. Soon after I painted it, I gave it my mother as her health was rapidly declining. Although she’s not Catholic (she’s Quaker), it gave her great comfort. This painting has become very special to me because of her attachment to it.
