Green Gallery East
oil on wood, 9″ x 12″, 2017
Artist, John Riepenhoff, and his cousin, Jake Palmert, opened the gallery in 2009 as a space to showcase the work of contemporary artists. This building has housed many business ventures over the years including a dry cleaner and pizza parlor. When I was painting this on-location people would stop and talk to me. Most didn’t realize that the building housed an art gallery. One of the great things about plein air painting over a number of days is that you begin to get to know the people of the area you’re painting. I was painting in front of an apartment that allowed dogs, so I became acquainted with humans and canines.
